Useful Information for Wedding Couples

FEES  Please click here for latest details

The charge for reading the Banns in this Parish only is included.  If one of you does not live in this Parish, your Banns need to be called in the Parish in which s/he lives.  There is a statutory fee for this (payable to the other church) and the Certificate you receive must be sent to the Administrator before your wedding.
You may have heard that Banns will no longer have to be read in church.  This is currently being discussed but, for now, you must carry out this procedure or we will not be able to marry you on the day!

Please pay the balance of your at least 6 weeks before your wedding via The Parish Office.  Cheques should be made payable to:
The Parish of South Gillingham

Please make every effort to attend the Church in which you are to be married to hear your Banns called.  The dates should have been given to you when you booked your wedding date and completed the Banns Application form.  If in doubt, please get in touch with the Administrator.  If you are being married at St Peter’s you will probably also receive a card a few weeks before.

MUSIC  You will need to contact the appropriate organist to talk about your choice of music SIX WEEKS before the wedding:
Please check your documentation for names and numbers or contact us.

For St Peter’s the organist is Peter Elligate.  We suggest you attend a few services as he often plays wedding music at the end of the service so you can hear possible tunes in the actual setting.  If he’s not rushing off to another booking, he will happily play through some tunes for you after the service.

FLOWERS      Your fee includes payment for some flowers to be provided by the church.  To discuss what will be provided please contact the person responsible, (Please check your documentation for names and numbers or contact us).

N.B.       Flowers are not provided during Lent (typically somewhere between mid February and mid April – it’s the 40 days before Easter Day).  You are welcome to provide your own flowers during this time but we ask you to remove them after the service.

At St Peter’s Church, Bredhurst we use pastel shades for weddings, this usually fits in if there is more than one wedding on the same day.  If you do wish to have a special colour included we do try and fit it in as best we can.  We do a pedestal and the two front windows, with a small posy in the Vestry.  We do not do pew ends or any extras, but are quite happy for wedding parties to make their own additional arrangements.  We ask you to set these up immediately before your wedding in case they clash with a previous bride’s colours.  Please also make arrangements to have them removed if there is another wedding later.  For more information on additional flowers, please click here.
